2007 Annual Budget

November 30, 2006 

 


A Public Hearing was held in the Village of Plain at the Municipal Building on November 30, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.  The purposes of the meeting were to review the 2006 General Fund budget and the proposed 2007 budget.  The following Village Board members were present: William Gruber, President; David Buchanan; Kevin Kraemer; Gary Leeck; James Liegel; and, Harold Murry, Trustees. Trustee Philip Studnicka was absent.

 

Others present: Dave Giffey of the Home News. 

 

Notice of this meeting was posted on November 15, 2006 in the following locations in the Village of Plain:  Municipal Building; Plain Post Office; and, The Peoples Community Bank.  Notice of this meeting was faxed to the Home News and Baraboo News Republic newspapers on November 28, 2006.  The preliminary budget summary was published in the November 15, 2006 issue of the Home News. 

 

The hearing was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by President Gruber. 

 

President Gruber began the hearing by asking if anyone had any questions for Kraemer, Chairman of the Finance Committee.  Liegel questioned the $10,000 in the Capital Improvements budget in 2006.  Kraemer explained that these funds were added to the Squad Car Replacement fund.  Kraemer went on to point out that the 2007 General Fund budget stayed within the 2% increase limit to qualify for an Expenditure Restraint payment.            

 

The mill rate for 2005 taxes was $18.538085.  For 2006, the rate is estimated to be $18.513462.  The mill rate is before any lottery credit applied. 

 

The Village’s tax levy increased from $408,868.10 in 2005 to $417,043.56 in 2006.  This is an increase of 1.96%.

Kraemer motioned to accept the 2007 General Fund budget of $505,932.13 as presented. 

Buchanan seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Kraemer motioned to adjourn the Public Hearing.  Murry seconded, and the motion carried.
